It depends; some IFAs or (independent Financial Advisors) do refer to themselves as Financial Advisers. However they are generally proud of the fact that they offer Independent Financial advisors so normally say that they are an IFA.

To check just look at the Business card that you have been given or ask your Advisor for further details.

Another useful thing to check is what qualifications that your Adviser holds. Normally to give regulated advice an Advisor will hold at least the Financial Planning Certificates parts one two and three.
